Diary writing can be useful and even pleasant. Still, if you do not have any idea about what to write there, read the text below. There you will find some topics and methods to write your diary.
Freewriting is a process of mechanical noting all the thoughts appearing in your head during a certain period of time (10-20 minutes). It is important to write with no censure, editing and worries about style or grammar. The method helps to overcome apathy and creative crisis.
To make freewriting maximally useful, keep to the following rules:
Say “no” to perfectionism, relax and write.
They motivate and make the process controllable. And help to go on writing when the topic seems to be done, too.
The point of this rule is that every thought can be continued. Even if it is stupid, you need to develop it: make it absurd or get a wise conclusion.
As you need to mobilize your hidden reserves for freewriting, you shouldn’t allow your mind to censure. The faster you write, the better the result is.
2. Morning Pages
Morning pages can be combined with freewriting. As soon as you wake up, take a notebook and write about anything coming to your mind. This exercise develops your creative abilities.
You can go without freewriting, too. Choose an interesting and inspiring topic before going to bed and write about it in the morning. There shouldn’t be anything negative in the morning, care about your mood.
By asking “Google” about “writing prompts” or “journal prompts” you can find many tips to help you with a topic:
Some of them offer serious topics; other ones are curious and funny. Them all can be useful, so do not skip any.
4. Questions and Answers
A diary is created to look for answers. Difficulties are often caused by questions. Here are some questions that you can start looking for answers right away.
- What am I living for?
- What makes me admired?
- How successful have I been since the last week?
- Create a list of things you could do, but didn’t. Do you want to give yourself one more try?
- Tears: are they about strength or weakness?
- Why some people believe in God and others do not? What are fundamental reasons for that?
- Have I been better today than I used to be the day before?
- What is freedom for me?
- What are most of my dreams about?
- How to learn being oneself?
- What superpower would I like to have?
5. Thanksgiving Journal
This practice should be combined with usual diary writing. Make a coffee, turn on the music and write about five things you are thankful for, five global ones. Write about five small things on the next day. Do that every day and note how you become calmer.
6. Consciousness Diary
Describe what you feel, do and think about 4-5 times per day. It does not matter what you do, devote just one minute. Watch after yourself and your behavior. You’ll become more conscious in a few weeks.
7. Turn Your Life into a Story
You are the main character. You have thoughts, deeds and results. That is a great way to find a sense and art value for your life. Try leading a plot to happy ending.
8. Photo Collage
You don’t have to use text exclusively. Insert photos, draw pictures with a pencil or a marker. You can tell a good story through pics.
Things are simple here. Take any topic and write about it: food, fashion, travelling, sport, studying, dreams, family, friends, and art. If nothing appears in your mind, then just look into a dictionary and choose the first word you read.
Nothing makes your mind clearer than thoughts about your plans, goals and time. It is not enough to just write about ten steps separating you from a goal. You need to think about it on purpose, to look for different ways, to improve your plans. A diary fits this best.
Did you just start going in for self-development? Do you feel that lack of time for everything? Then, write about personal growth in a diary, think about it. You can act as Franklin: write ten qualities you would like to gain and then devote a month for each of them. You can analyze what works and what does not. Write about all advantages and drawbacks of every skill you are going to get.
